Personalized medicine

26 de January de 2021

Personalized medicineis a change in the therapeutic paradigm in whichtreatments based on the intrinsic characteristics of the patientare used. Therefore progress is made from the model consisting of administering a treatment that is effective against the pathology in the general population, to the most appropriate treatment (with the best therapeutic effect and fewer side effects) for the treatment of the pathology in that particular patient. To do this, techniques are needed to subclassify both pathologies and patients. Through the knowledge of certain SNPs and with the help of algorithms or computer programs, the risk to certain pathologies can be predicted, which makes it easier to establish apredictive medicine, which allows to implant apersonalized preventive medicine, according to the patient’s genes. The field that uses genetic differences to establish the most appropriate drug therapy isPharmacogenetics.
