Chromosome arm p

In an optical microscope the chromosomes present a form of stick with a constriction cane called centromere which divides chromosome into two arms. The arm “p” is shorter. This nomenclature comes from the first work on chromosomes published in French and the short arm is called “petite” meaning small, and hence it is adapted for the letter “p” .
